How to Choose a Profitable Target Market

It is very important to choose the correct target market. Otherwise, it is like throwing darts in the dark and the chances of you hitting bulls-eye are next to nothing.

 Most people spend much time and fund trying to reach out to the market but receive lukewarm or no respond.

 It certainly helps if you intend to get involve in a field which is close to your heart. For example, you love fishing. When you are interested and have burning passion for your chosen field, you will find joy and satisfaction in selling and promoting items relating to fishing and have loads of  fun in the process. You also don't get bored or lose interest along the way.

 However, do not limit yourself to target market of your interest only as there are millions of profitable target markets out there waiting for you to venture in. Anyway the ultimate goal and reason of you starting internet marketing is to make money, but it you can make tons of money and have fun as the same time it is a bonus!

 It will be a great boost if you are able to identifying a profitable niche market. Niche is defined as any focused sub-market within a larger target market. Look at the examples below:-

•  potty training for children below 3 years old     – niche within parenting market.
• dish out stew chicken within 15 minutes           – niche within cooking market
• make beautiful homemade earrings                   – niche within craft market
• Loss 2kg within a week                                     – niche within weight loss market

 Some niches go together. Let's go through some examples below:-

• post natal mothers who wish to loss weight also want to find ways to loss stretch marks
• men who want a 6 pack abs also want to learn to date pretty and slim girls
• girls who want to dump their boring boyfriends also want to learn to find new rich and handsome boyfriends
• girls who want to learn how to put on makeup also want to find out where to purchase good cosmetic products

 and the list goes on. With research and a little creativity you will be able to find niches which are profitable and marketable.

By targeting a market and identifying a niche you will be able to create your product around the needs, desire and wants of customers and chances are high of you making sales to these customers. People tend to buy things to:-

•  meet their deepest desire and wants
• solve their biggest or embarrassing  problems
• make themselves better or feel better

 Some people think that by creating something new and unique they can bring in tons of customers. They think their product is one in a million and there is impossible to find a product close to theirs in the market. As such customers will be scrambling and killing each other to get them. Unfortunately it is not always true.

 Remember this. A wise man once said:

"A wise man learns from his mistakes. But a wiser man avoids them by learning from the mistakes of others."

 Usually not many people want to buy a totally new product. No point to create a totally new product when efforts and millions of dollars have been invested on market research and product development. You are better off selling and promoting products or products related to other products which have good and proven sales track record. You can leverage on the highly successful product without doing much market research or spending much money but having a much higher chance of success.

 Where to look for these ideas on profitable product to sell? Few options you may want to consider.

•  Look into Google Adwords
• Visit your local library and check out publications on topic of interest
• Join forum to gauge what customers out there want and desire
• Check out ClickBank.com
