Men And DIY Just Don't Go!

Quite a few years back when the children were still little, my other half and I thought it would be a great idea to buy a swing slide.   We researched various play systems for them as we wanted to ensure that they got years of use out of the play equipment.

It was a mammoth job trying to ensure we got the right play set that was suitable for both our 7 year old and our 2 year old.  A lot of garden play equipment is absolute rubbish and would never have lasted 5 minutes, let alone 5 years.

Some of the less expensive ones looked absolutely unstable and certainly nowhere near safe enough for the children.   In the end we plumped for a very sturdy wooden playset, which was delivered direct to our door.

Even though it was years ago, I can still remember the day we put together the playset. The weather was absolutely boiling hot, which was unusual as it was Easter Saturday.If the truth be told, it was just a tad too hot for constructing a playset out in the garden.

Although the instruction leaflet was perfectly well written and easy to follow, somehow my other half and I still managed to disagree on plenty.You know these boys, they are adamant they are right, but most of the time they know nothing!   It takes a women to supervise and make sure everything goes in the right place. If my husband was left to his own devices, the slide would have been attached to something it really shouldn't have been and there is no way the kids could have used the swing as it wouldn't have been safe enough!

I must say that in our house, anything that involves screwdrivers and hammers always seems to end in an argument. We both get really stroppy and he never pays attention to me, or has the ability to follow simple instructions.

We have had some real howlers in the past, but to be honest I love it.   It gets the blood pumping and gives us a chance to give our lungs a good workout.

When my husband has his DIY head on, you have never heard so much huffing and puffing.    The older he gets, the worse he seems to get and so now whenever I need anything doing, I try to just get on with it myself!!
